2009 Young Arts Project at Framfield School, Uckfield

Framfield Primary School

Framfield is a small rural school of about 70 children near Uckfield. On Thursday 24th September and Friday 25th, the local artist, Carol Harvard,  introduced the topic of “Designing Homes” to the whole school – based upon the National Curriculum.

Initially, the topic was introduced to the school in assembly. In their groups, children discussed , designed and tried out different ideas before using recycled household material and modroc plaster to build their "home." Many parents  and 2 members supported this event.

Some of their sculptures are shown above and are displayed in classrooms or playground. The top castle, igloo and Faraway tree were large enough for children to climb inside.

Finally, they will paint and decorate their models and perhaps add texture to them. The models will be displayed around the school and used as a basis for their topic work. The Head Teacher and staff are very grateful for our support and wish to stress how much the children enjoyed it.
