Then members will make their own arrangements for lunch, or take their own, before visiting the exhibition in the afternoon. The bus will leave at 4.00 and arrive back at Uckfield by about 6.30 p.m. Numbers have to be given to the Royal Academy by the beginning of March so please book soon on 01273 400869

The Exhibition

The exhibition focuses on the artist's remarkable correspondence with over 35 original letter, rarely exhibited to the public because they are frail. Alongside them are  about 65 paintings and 30 drawings that illustrate the principal themes in the letters. It is the first major Van Gogh exhibition in London for over forty years and it is bound to be very popular.

The exhibition will include the artist's comparatively cheerful second-last letter to his brother Theo. His last letter was the suicide note found on his body when, only a few weeks later, he shot himself in the fields he was painting

'Still Life with a Plate of Onions', 1889
