letters

We will leave Uckfield bus station at 8.30 am and there will be a powerpoint presentation when we arrive
at the Royal Academy. It will provide general background to the exhibition
as well as focusing upon key works in the exhibition. Then
members will make their own arrangements for lunch, or take their own,
before visiting the exhibition in the afternoon. The bus will leave at
4.00 and arrive back at Uckfield by about 6.30 p.m. Numbers have to be

The Exhibition
The exhibition focuses on the artist's remarkable
correspondence with over 35 original letter, rarely exhibited to the
public because they are frail. Alongside them are about 65 paintings
and 30 drawings that illustrate the principal themes in the letters. It is
the first major Van Gogh exhibition in London for over forty years and it
is bound to be very popular.
The exhibition will include the artist's comparatively
cheerful second-last letter to his brother Theo. His last letter was the
suicide note found on his body when, only a few weeks later, he shot
himself in the fields he was painting
