Visit to the Wallace Collection on October 22nd

Photographs taken by a member's husband.

Highlights of the Wallace Collection,

We were most fortunate to have the professional service of a superb guide to explain to us in such enlightening detail  with apt and charming humour the story of some of the numerous paintings - particularly Madame de Pompadour (Francois Boucher), Titus (Rembrandt) and several Dutch paintings.

Lunch was enjoyed in the most tastefully furnished  conservatory restaurant and then there was free time to view the Damien Hirst collection of his new paintings and other parts of the huge Wallace collection.

The beautiful home of the treasures on display and the friendly welcoming atmosphere made for a hugely enjoyable visit.

The Wallace Collection,

Manchester Square,London W1.

The Wallace Collection is a national museum displaying the wonderful works of art collected in the 18th and 19th centuries by the first four Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, the son of the 4th Marquess. It was bequeathed to the British nation by Sir Richard's widow, Lady Wallace, in 1897.

No Love Lost, Blue Paintings by Damien Hirst

This exhibition displays 25 new paintings by Damien Hirst, including two triptychs, showing in the UK for the first time. These paintings were created  between 2006 and 2008 and  are "deeply connected with the past."

They are displayed in a classical environment and the redecoration of the two galleries was funded by Hirst himself.
